Trying New Things...

I was trying to play piano and realized that I had a hard time keeping in time with the metronome. That is how I learned that I have no rhythm. Which sucks cause I have ideas for music I want to make. I can sing in time (I think) but playing, adapting and creating music seems and feels much harder than that. I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but it kinda sucks. Especially when I want to create music to set the worlds in my stories.
I have been working on improving my rhythm by listening to a metronome's tempo and counting when learning piano. There are also some apps that have helped with making my rhythm better. I just have to do these every day for a bit, which is where I struggle the most. I have at least 20 reminders on my phone for normal tasks and when to do them, which helps. It's when I get a curveball that I have a hard time keeping up with my habits/reminders. I'm getting better, though.
Speaking of getting better, I'm learning some instruments. I dabbled in guitar when I was in high school and college but my last guitar broke so I stopped for a couple years. I did get a new guitar but it is a really cheap guitar, so it barely works for what I want to do. I will stick with it until it dies or gets too difficult to work with, since I don't really want to buy a new one just to learn the very basics when my rhythm sucks. I am making progress on the piano, even though I've only been at it for about two months. But I am getting okay at it, even if I'm being self-taught.
I am also learning beatboxing. I can do the drum kick, a hi-hat and one of the snares and I'm experimenting with other sounds and working on figuring out how to layer beats. To achieve the latter, I use a loop station to hear what works and what doesn't. Since my musicality is very low, I'm just focusing on getting the sounds for beatboxing done. I don't care about being a master or world champion of beatboxing but I want to be able to make music sounds when I don't have any equipment with me.
You may reading this and be like, "You're gonna suck at everything you're trying to learn." My goal is not to be the best at everything I'm trying to learn. It's to be able to use what I have to create what I have in my head for others to get the feel and vibe of the stories I am creating. It is help people experience these stories I am creating. I also do this while working and going to school so I can only do so much in a weekday. I have more time usually on the weekends but I also do other creative work, like writing, learning, and researching.
Once I get better at my rhythm, I'll be able to create my music and upload it to my YouTube and socials for people to hear. You won't hear me singing much, mainly cause I suck at singing. My singing tone is very flat, even when I'm on key, so it sounds very grating to hear. So I will sing rarely, maybe some harmonies that I'll autotune so much you will think it's good.
Well, here's another blog post. I plan to keep you guys updated on the status of my projects, so look at the Projects page every once in a while. I won't put everything I'm working on because I'm also practicing getting better at my crafts, but what I put on that page is what I'm working on that I want to share. It will be updated soon to include the music I want to work on, which is taking characters and stories I know and putting my own spin on them.
See you guys!
